06. Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers, South Islands
This glacier is amongst the most accessible glaciers in the world. The Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers are located in the Westland National Park. These two glaciers are the tigers of Southern Alps. These ice rivers actually flow from the highest peaks in Southern Alps to near sea level. The gentle coastline climate here makes it easy for visitor to explore them on foot. If you want to go to the foot of glaciers, you can hire a guide that will lead you to the frozen landscapes of ice caves. For an aerial view, seaplanes and helicopters fly visitors to the top of these vast tongues of ice.
