01. Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, Lisbon
This is a monument built by King Mauel I which marked as a symbol of Portugal’s astonishing era of conquest and expansion. It is one of the most visited and cherished site in the whole country. Whenver a tourist lands at Lisbon, his ultimate aim is to visit this site. This monument was built to honor Vasco da Gama’s discovery of sea route to India in 1498. There is a church and a monastery here which is the finest example of Manueline architecture in Portugal. Appropriately, the church houses the tomb of Vasco da Gama and other national figureheads as well.
