06. “The Door to Hell”, Turkmenistan
The Darvaza gas crater, known as “Door to Hell” is a natural gas field in Derweze, Turkmenistan, that collapsed into an underground cavern in 1971, becoming a natural gas crater. Over the years, this site has gathered tourist attraction. It has the area equal to an American football field with a total area of 5350 m2. The place has a diameter of 69 meters with temperature approaching 400 degree Celsius. This whole place is the result of an accident happened in 1971. There is underground cave filled with natural gas under this door. Since 1971, it has burned for four decades and provides an impressive spectacle every day.
